Worship and Music Ministry
Worship

Mission:  To assist the Pastor and the Congregation Council in providing the highest quality in the congregation's worship, and to involve as many members as possible as participants and leaders according to their gifts.

St. Paul's worship services include the celebration of Holy Communion at all services.  As Christians we are called to Word and Sacrament, and we are encouraged to partake in the Sacrament of Holy Communion as often as possible.

On Saturday evenings you can join us in the Chapel for our 6:30 PM spoken service.  We offer two services on Sunday - at 8:00 AM and at 10:15 AM.  Early service on Sunday is spoken, while late service is sung with a full choir from September through May.  During the summer months we offer special music and many soloists during the late service.  All services are in English.

Sunday's 10:15 AM service is also considered the Family Service, and we have a well-equipped and staffed Nursery during this service so that parents with children under the age of 5 may enjoy the service while the children have play time in the nursery.  Busy bags are also available for other children to keep them occupied in the Sanctuary during the service.  A Children's Sermon is also included during the Family Service.

St. Paul's members volunteer to supply the church with the following positions to complete Worship:

Acolyte Lights the candles, presents and receives offering plates to and from the ushers, and assists with serving Holy Communion.  Children at St. Paul's begin acolyting in the third grade.
Alter Guild Prepares worship services.  Duties include set-up, tear-down, clean and prepare the alter for the next service.  Prepares the vessels for the Eucharist, prepares the baptismal font when needed, and checks the church calendar to ensure the paraments are correct.
Assisting Minister Helps the Pastor distribute Holy Communion and reads the prayers at all worship services.  The assisting minister should be mature in faith, comfortable in front of the congregation, able to read well, and clearly be heard.
Crucifer Carries the processional cross at the 10:15 AM worship service.
Lector Reads the scriptures at the 10:15 AM worship service.
Nursery Attendant Provides nursery care to children five years old and younger during the 10:15 AM worship service.
Special Flowers Coordinator Announces in bulletins when flowers can be ordered (Pentecost, Easter, Christmas), records orders and collects money for special flowers, places orders with the florist, accepts delivery and arranges flowers in the sanctuary, and arranges and trains any additional volunteers.
Usher Provides ushering and greeter services at the 10:15 AM worship service.

Music

Mission:  To strive to enrich the worship experience for all worshippers by leading the congregation in a liturgical setting.

Vocal, bell and chime choirs are organized to develop skills with musical instruments and singing voices.  Instrumentalists and vocalists are invited to offer their musical gifts throughout the year as soloists or in small ensembles.  Efforts are made to include youth and adult musicians in worship.

The specific groups organized at this time include:

Adult Choir Leads the congregation at the 10:15 AM and other special worship services and offers special music to enhance the worship experience.  The choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM and at other designated times from September through May.  A love of singing and dedication to worship leadership are important for this group.
Youth Choir Offers special music for worship services at regular intervals from September through May.  A love of singing and desire to learn about liturgical worship is important.
Adult Bell Choir Offers special ensemble music and accompanies hymns/liturgy during worship services with hand bells.  Eye and hand coordination are critical; the ability to read music is helpful but not necessary.
Children's Chimes Young people in grades four and up learn to play hand chimes to offer special music and to accompany worship music at designated times throughout the year.  Eye and hand coordination are helpful skills; the ability to read music is not necessary.
