August 1, 1974 The stained glass windows in St.
Paul's Church have been reflecting the light of the
Christian gospel since 1914. Sounds of worship
services have reverberated on their colored glass panels,
conveying a message of comfort, forgiveness, assurance, and
eternal life to worshippers for 60 years.
There is no way to know the number of persons who have
been inspired and brought to a closer relationship to Christ
through these silent messengers. Their effectiveness
can be gauged by comments from our members and visitors who
attest to their beauty and their significance to them.
It is for those persons, some of whom have encouraged me in
the preparation of this little booklet, that this booklet
goes in the hope of a deeper understanding and appreciation
of their faith. It goes also to the casual viewer who
has seen only colored windows and failed to discern their
message. Hopefully to those persons, through this
booklet, the message of the Gospel may be more clearly
reflected.
The only written information about these windows is
contained in a newspaper in the possession of the
congregation, published at the time of the dedication of the
church in 1914. Listed therein are the titles given to
some of the windows. From that bit of information,
this booklet evolved - to locating most appropriate
scripture, poetry or hymns, and selecting a few paragraphs
which best convey the message. Some of these thoughts
are from the series of "Window Sermons" I have delivered
here in 1958 and 1958.
